BSc (Hons) Sports Conditioning and Coaching


Joe graduated in 2005 with a B.Sc. (Hons) Sports Conditioning and Coaching degree from the prestigious Hartpury College, Gloucester (University of the West of England). After graduating Joe spent some time working in commercial gyms for the Fitness First chain in the South West. He developed a great ability to connect with a variety of clients and deliver high quality fitness training for people with a wide variety of goals and experience. Joe joined the Plymouth Neurophysio team in 2015 to develop his skills and experience working with individuals with Neurological and long-term conditions.


Joe has a high level of experience and knowledge working with clients ranging from complete exercise novices through to elite athletes and elite forces operatives. Over the last few years he has also developed a keen interest in working with clients with various neurological difficulties and this experience has included working with people at various stages of the rehabilitation process. He joined forces with the PNP team in January 2015 to co-lead the NeuroPhysical Group programme alongside our specialist neurological physiotherapists and was an instant hit with all the team and participants now offering 1:1 personal training sessions with several of our clients.


Joe enjoys helping people improve every aspect of their fitness including strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular fitness, coordination, balance and power. He employs a functional approach to exercise maximising the transfer of benefits from his sessions into improve real world movements and activities. Joe also has additional qualifications including 'pre-/post-natal exercise instructor'.


From a young age Joe loved participating in competitive sport and developed an interest in fitness training from his desire to increase his performance on the rugby pitch. This lead to him exploring various training modalities and developing a keen interest in the science which underpins both human performance and the training methods used to improve it. 


Joe employs various methods to achieve his client’s goals and can also provide exercise and nutrition programmes to complement the 1 - to - 1 sessions he provides.


Joe has lived in Plymouth since 2009 where he runs his own business 'Shift Personal Training' and lives with his wife and 2 children.
